Roslyn Estates

Roslyn Estates

Incorporated in 1931, Roslyn Estates is a village in the Nassau County town of North Hempstead. Anchored by the village of Roslyn, the Greater Roslyn area includes Roslyn Estates as well as Roslyn Heights, Roslyn Harbor, East Hills, Greenvale and Searingtown.

Local historians have carefully preserved many historic buildings from Roslyn's nearly 400 years as a community. The estates of William Bryant and Childs Frick are within the Roslyn area, and two neighborhoods are registered historic districts boasting architecture from the early 19th and 20th centuries. At the corner of Main and Old Northern, Roslyn's clock tower is a prominent and well-known local landmark.

An attractive, affluent neighborhood on Long Island's Gold Coast, Roslyn Estates was once home to sprawling estates and vast mansions belonging to some of the country's wealthiest families. These estates were subdivided to accommodate suburban living, but many of the homes that now occupy these former estates are quite luxurious even by today's standards. Amid rolling green hills, ponds and walking trails, this architecturally unique village is a safe and welcoming community of only about 400 families. The houses, condominiums and apartments within Roslyn Estates tend to be newly-constructed homes offering every modern amenity. Homes here rank among the most expensive on the North Shore.

Greater Roslyn is located at the southernmost tip of Hempstead Harbor, at the center of no less than six golf courses including the historic Old Westbury course to the east. Local recreation options include Gerry Pond and Gerry Pond Park, which form a picturesque village green. Cultural offerings include the Nassau County Museum of Art and Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center. The southwestern quadrant of Roslyn Estates is occupied by the 98-acre Christopher Morley Park, which boasts a nine-hole golf course, pools and tennis courts, ball fields, a dog run, a model boat basin and an ice rink.

Shopping and dining options can be found along Mineola Avenue. In nearby Manhasset you'll find the Miracle Mile, shopping strip along Northern Boulevard, offering high-end department stores and popular shops like Lord & Taylor and Ann Taylor in the 225,000-square-foot Americana Manhasset.

Both the Long Island Expressway and the Northern State Parkway run along the southern border of Roslyn Estates; Midtown Manhattan less than 25 miles away. Roslyn Estates is served by the Roslyn station on the Long Island Railroad; the trip to Pennsylvania Station takes about 52 minutes. An express train from the Manhasset station takes about 35 minutes.
